You can hit the Exit button to finish the current song playing, then exit.
You can hit the End button to fade out and exit now.
You put in a Recent Path so it easy synchronize your music and play lists on all of your computers automatically.
For timed play, you can put a command to run after the play list is done. This is the Run After text box. In our example we put "C:\exe\pcbackup2.exe /shutdown", so PC Backup runs and then shuts down the computer.

A typical day in my life is, I use text to speech to create technical news
that I want to listen to on my drive to work. I have all of my text to
speech files copied over to my MP3 player. I use DJ MP3 to fill up that
space with music. So I have my music on the go, but I also have my technical
documents as well.
You can use /cd on the command line to put DJMP3 in CD mode. In CD mode, the
only play list that it will use is a list it makes up itself from the
current folder. If you type djmp31.exe /cd that will force DJMP3 to play
only mp3 files in the current folder or directory. You can use the /shuffle
command with /cd to shuffle the play order. In CD mode you can select /npr
to tell DJ MP3 to play NPR five minute news at 55 minutes after the hour.
You can also use /bbc and all of the same rules apply. If you use NPR and
BBC such as djmp31.exe /cd /shuffle /npr /bbc, you will see two lines of
text for the news. The top text box is NPR with the time to play at 0*55,
and the next box down is BBC and the time to play is 1*55. This will force
NPR to play at all hours that start with a 0 (from 0055 to 0955) and BBC
plays at all hours starting with 1 (from 1055 to 1955). Keep in mind these
use a 24 hour clock.
You can use the 'Exit' button to put Exit DJ MP3 in the play queue. This
will exit the program after it is done playing the current song.
You will see three boxes for 'News URLs' and just to the right of them are
time blocks. The URLs do not have to be set to anything, but you can set
them up to point to on line news folders, for example the audio version of
Top Tech Stories is http://techjim.com/tts/anews.asx . You can also use a
file such as C:\dailyreading\a.asx. To the right of these text boxes, you
will see some time boxes. You can set the time individually for each of
these to play. If you double click any time box, DJ MP3 will automatically
set it to one minute from now.

To use gab, copy all of your mp3 files to the c:\gab folder. These are files
such as "Welcome to Kim Artist Radio." Gab files will be played randomly. We
use 12 minutes between gab.
You can specify the maximum MBytes used by mp3 files on the c:\cassette
folder. Just fill in the Max MBytes text box. 700 is a CD. If you have some
older blank CDs this may be 650. DVDs can be 4500 or larger depending on the
DVD and media you are using. Hit the Digital Cassette button to copy the
files over. DJ MP3 does not clear off old files first. So you can have mp3
files from other sources but the folder size still works correctly.
When you use the Cassette option, the first song copied to the c:\cassette
folder will be named 001song0001.mp3, the rest of the songs will be named:
song0002.mp3, song0003.mp3, and so on. The first song is named the way it is
to force it to play before news001.mp3. You can copy mp3 files to the
c:\cassette folder in their original file names if you wish by hitting the
Keep Names button instead of the Digital Cassette button.
You can copy all of the files regardless of time or size if you use the Make
DVD button. Click the Make DVD will delete all existing MP3 files from the
c:\makedvd folder, and copy the current play list. The file names here are:
000001.mp3, 000002.mp3, 000003.mp3, and so on. There is no checking for
space or time so every song in your play list that has not played yet will
get copied to here. DJ MP3 will exit after you click this button.
We have this running at home 24 hours a day. We have a PC on our
entertainment center that we use just for DJ MP3. We have this program setup
to start at boot up (in case of a long power outage). This application
behaves just like a radio station, to include news and gab.
You can have it go to say, NPR news at the top of the hour, or any time you
want for example. When there is news or gab set to play, the music will not
be interrupted for the sake of going to the scheduled gab or news. as soon
as it comes time for a news show or gab, it is put in the queue and will
play after your current song is done playing.
We also have ours setup to play Top Tech Stories every day! Top Tech Stories
is technical news that is converted to mp3s and put on line everyday!
(http://techjim.com) http://techjim.com/tts/anews.asx (Audio)
You can start DJ MP3 with any play list, just enter the word "playlist"
followed by a space and the name of the play list, such as djmp31.exe
playlist 50s.
I also have a copy on my desktop. Every day, I use it to mix a new CD for
the car.
You must supply your own mp3 files. We convert all of our CDs as we get them
to MP3 files.
This works great for everyday and holidays such as Independence Day,
Christmas, and New Years for example.
djmp31.exe is the executable
You can search for file names or song names. The files that where found one
at a time, you can double click on any of the file names to have the song
move up to get added to the queue.
Any song that is on the queue list that you click on will start playing
right now.
While your mp3 files are playing, you will see a text box in the top right
corner of the screen. This is the default first field, but if the cursor is
not flashing here, just click in the text box.
While the cursor is flashing in the upper right corner text box , the text
says Playing, and music is playing, you can hit the Space Bar to just stop
playing the current song, but will not delete it from the play list.
You may have as many different play lists as you choose. This comes in handy
for a few reasons, first, every person using the PC in question gets their
list with the exact songs they like and nothing more or less. Play lists may
be scheduled as well. You can have Classical Music at night, Pop or Country
during the day, and easy listing for when you girl friend is visiting.
Each play list may be as mixed as you wish, you may have all of your mp3
files in one play list if you choose.
You may have several things on the command line.
You may identify a 'play list' by typing "playlist" on the command line,
followed by the name of the 'play list'. You do not need to enter the play
list file extension which is always .pl
If you have a play list on the command line, the program automatically
starts playing the songs in that list.
Each play list will have it's own parameters, such as starting volume level,
shuffle or not, gab, bookmark, continuous, search path, news settings and
such.
The bookmark is very useful for listening to audio books. If you set it, do
not shuffle the list!
You may use time on the command line. If time is on the command line, the
program will play for exactly how many hours, minutes, and seconds, you set
it to. Type a / right before the time. Time should be typed as hours, colon,
minutes, colon, and seconds. This format is commonly referred to as
hh:mm:ss. For example: /time 00:43:03 would play for 43 minutes and 3
seconds. This exact timing is useful for taking your music with you in the
form of DVDs, CDs or Cassette tapes, or Hi Fi VCRs. The time command here
has nothing to do with the Digital Cassette button and parameter. The time
command will make the best use of the times of your mp3 files. If you have a
short list, the time may not be real accurate. DJ MP3 will try to make your
list come out as close as possible, without going over the time you set. If
you only have 50 songs and each is five minutes, and you told it to play for
18 minutes, you will get 15 minutes.
You may (as I do) have a large collection of mp3 files that you want to copy
on to CD, or tape, and you want them shuffled, but you do not want to repeat
them, and do not have time to do them in one session. The answer is the
usedset option.
More on the usedset. You may add this to the command line as well. When this
option is selected, each song that plays is added to a file. Each time the
program is started under these conditions, before any song is played, this
file is checked to make sure you do not repeat a song. The only problem with
this is we buy allot of CDs, from time to time, you are going to have 2 or
more copies of the same song, and if this is the case, this will treat each
song as one.
You may have an mp3 device that you take with you. We use an mp3 player that
fits into the Cassette tape in my car. You want to maximize space on the
device by using the "cassette" option on the command line. Doing so, will
copy so many files based on space. You can specify for each play list, what
the maximum space for the digital cassette will be. Actually the mp3 player
will work the same. My mp3 player will hold exactly 63.1 Mbytes, so I have
is typed into that field on the screen. Clicking the 'Digital Cassette'
button on the software will do the exact same thing as cassette on the
command line. When using this feature, the program goes through your play
list to maximize space, it does not just merely fill up the space. This
allows the user to check how much space is on the mp3 player, what is the
maximum that the mp3 player can hold, can copies them to a folder called
c:\cassette and renames them. All you have to do is copy and paste them to
your mp3 player. After you use this option, DJ MP3 will automatically end
after it is done.
Example of the cassette option on the command line: djmp31.exe /cassette
DJ MP3 lends itself to use with other programs as it has a number of command
line options.
